Position Summary: Cook Children's, in Fort Worth, Texas, is initiating a search for a full time pediatric anatomical and clinical pathologist. Cook Children's Medical Center is a freestanding, state-of-the art, 430-bed children's hospital, continually recognized as one of the Nation's premier private not-for-profit children's hospitals, and it is situated as the western anchor of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. As part of an integrated system of specialty clinics, physician offices and home care, Cook Children's has approximately one million patient visits annually and the campus and its programs are currently undergoing significant expansion due to marked population growth in its referral area.
The primary focus of the institution is on extraordinary patient care with a very close consultative relationship between the department and all the clinical services. The ideal candidate will have an MD or DO degree (or equivalent), be board eligible or board certified in anatomic/clinical pathology and in pediatric pathology. Expertise or special interest in transfusion medicine, coagulation and/or molecular diagnostics would be a plus.The candidate must be eligible for licensing in Texas.
The department includes five pediatric pathologists, one hematopathologist, a PhD clinical microbiologist and a PhD clinical chemist. Approximately 7500 surgical specimens, 1200 cytologies, 400 bone marrows, 150 flow cytometries and 30-35 autopsies are performed each year. We are housed in a brand new state of the art laboratory.The program supports a very active hematology-oncology department with a busy bone marrow transplant service.There is a highly regarded neurosciences programwith a large epilepsy center, an intraoperative MRI, ten neurologists, dedicated neuroradiology and four full time pediatric neurosurgeons.Gastrointestinal biopsies account for more than 30% of the total surgical pathology volume.There is also a very active cardiology/cardiac surgery service that includes three cardiac surgeons and 12 full time pediatric cardiologists.The Cook Children's system also includes very busy pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, a cardiovascular intensive care unit and a neuro intensive care unit with a nascent stroke program.Ten new operating rooms are in the process of coming on line.
