Summary: Trained under the Medical model curriculum, the Physician Assistant functions in collaborative independent practice with physician(s) in the private practice or clinic setting. Autonomously performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and intervention according to approved protocols. Develops and maintains own volume of patients. Provides practice/clinic coverage for physician(s) during periods of absence. Prescribes a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including hospital admission/discharge and prescriptive authority. Serves as role model and resource to private practice/clinic clinical personnel.
Qualifications: Graduate of an approved accredited Physician Assistant program; Masters of Science as a Physician Assistant required. [PAs not meeting this educational requirement will be considered based on experience and will be required to attain Masters of Science as a PA within 2 years of date of hire.] Minimum two years pediatric experience in pediatric primary / specialty or acute care setting preferred, or 2 years experience in related allied health field required, i.e. family practice setting with heavy component of pediatric patients.
Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas. Recognition from the State Medical Board as a Physician Assistant. Certification as a Physician Assistant PA-C required. Current certification in Basic Life Support required. Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred.
