Schedule: Variable Shift
Responsible for cash from various departments in the hospital. Performs excellent customer service at the cashier's window by collecting co-payments, coinsurance and deductibles from the patients/families receiving outpatient services or discharging from inpatient services; assists patients who have questions or concerns regarding their account and issues receipts for the Admitting Department. Provides cash to make change for patients, visitors and employees. Provides petty cash for miscellaneous company purchases. Provides change for other areas of the hospital that handle cash. Documents all transactions in the ledger and in the computer system accurately and efficiently. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Core competencies: Compliance and computerized annual required education (HealthStream); additional competencies as defined by Department Director.
Collects co-payments and payment transactions and provides receipts.
Enters all transactions into the ledger and into the computer system accurately and in a timely manner.
Accuracy of daily deposits to PFS is required. Retains necessary cash in the drawer.
Assists patients with questions or concerns regarding accounts. If he/she
cannot help with the issues, routes patient to appropriate area.
Documents action on accounts.
Provides change to various departments of the hospital.
Collects revenues daily from Nutritional Services, Physical Medicine, ED Admissions and OB Clinic, and provides receipts of all transactions. Provides proper change for larger bills to patients, visitors and employees.
Processes outgoing deposit and change request for Wells Fargo. Consistently calculates amount of change required to anticipate the needs of departments with petty cash.
Utilizes the safe for large bills and large amounts of money from the cash drawer. Ensures that security measures are taken at all times, never leaving any cash unattended.
Assists Financial Counselors as needed by processing payments for the early out vendor, entering notes on accounts, running reports and processing returned mail.
Manages enrollment and payment for classes for the Women's and Newborn Center.
Assists PBX by covering switchboard during lunches, breaks and emergency situations and helps by scanning misc. documents into the system if needed.
At all times maintains professional public image and behavior towards visitors and patients.
Demonstrates awareness of his/her public image in interpersonal relationships in the workplace.
Communication, cooperation and assistance are given promptly in a clear and courteous manner to coworkers, hospital staff, patients, outpatients and visitors.
Consistently adheres to the confidentiality policy.
Demonstrates a teachable, positive, can-do attitude by adapting to change, viewing problems as a challenge and not an obstacle, and developing solutions .
High school graduation or G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
Prefer knowledge of office functions and procedures, CRT, typing, 10 key use, filing, phone work and customer relations.
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities :
Provides a high level of customer service/satisfaction.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills, as well as analytical capabilities.
Must possess a strong understanding of receipting all moneys collected and documentation of all moneys into ledger. As well as understanding the importance of reconciling all moneys collected by the end of day.
This position may require interaction with people of all ages; therefore, the employee must have communications skills appropriate for people of all ages.
