The Department of Radiation Oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is opening a national search for a Department Administrator. We seek a strong and motivated individual with leadership and business experience to assume senior administrative authority in the Department for operations and strategic direction. The Department currently delivers radiation to approximately 150 patients per day at four centers with approximately 80 staff. These treatments include inpatients, pediatric patients, radiosurgery, brachytherapy and intraoperative radiation. The Department is also home to both medical residency and physics graduate programs.
The Department of Radiation Oncology is an integral member of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC), an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, which has again been named among the nation’s elite providers of specialty care by U.S. News and World Report magazine. Additionally, Vanderbilt University Medical Center has been ranked the No. 1 hospital in the Metro Nashville area and the No. 1 hospital in Tennessee. Nashville has experienced tremendous growth and was ranked fifth on the list of cities people are moving to by Forbes magazine. Responsibilities for this position include implementation of systems and initiatives influencing: operational management, strategic planning, business development, marketing, philanthropy, human resource management, sponsored research management, information systems design and delivery, and professional and ethical responsibilities on behalf of the Chair of the Department. The successful candidate will work very closely with our new Chair of Radiation Oncology, internationally recognized for her impact in clinical trials, mentorship and research. The Department Administrator will also work collaboratively with other Radiation Oncology and Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center leadership in developing new initiatives to achieve higher levels of performance throughout the Department and Cancer Center.

Advanced Degree with greater than 7 years Senior Management experience in Radiation Oncology, Oncology, or outpatient medical practice in an academic medical center;
Budget management experience required and billing management experience preferred;
Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to be socially perceptive in accepting and relaying confidential information, communicating policies and procedures, and interacting collaboratively and effectively with a variety of Department, Cancer Center and Medical Center leadership, national and international oncology organizations, and new business partners;
Superior verbal and written communication skills;
Strong problem-solving skills; proactive and resourceful;
Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft applications;
Ability to work independently and exercise sound independent judgment;
Capacity to inspire confidence in his or her reasoning and decision-making;
