Nemours is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant (FULL-TIME) to join our Nemours Children's Specialty Care team in Jacksonville, Florida.

Certified Ophthalmic Assistants work under the direct supervision of an ophthalmologist or optometrist, gathering patient information necessary to complete a diagnosis. Duties include performing preliminary eye function testing, communicating with and preparing the patient, plus additional testing as directed. Employee must be extremely discreet to patient confidentiality in accordance to HIPPA standards.
Accurately collects health care data and documents appropriate information in patient record according to policy and training resources.
Be proficient with all basic testing techniques and equipment, to include a full patient work up, ancillary testing with OCT, fundus camera, static visual fields and other testing requested by the physician.
Independently perform and accurately document standard testing procedures.
Learn and maintain knowledge to effectively communicate with patients when explaining testing procedures to get desired outcomes expected by the physician.
Responsible for professional practice and development of self, according to the scope of practice.
Performs clerical duties as assigned by clinical supervisor.
Attend and participate in divisional huddles and meetings when scheduled
Complies with and promotes Nemours Standards of Behaviors.
Be flexible to travel to the different satellite locations within Jacksonville area.
High School Diploma is required, as well as specialized training.
JCAHPO Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant; if not currently certified must become certified within one year of hire date.
At least one year of prior experience required. Successful completion of an Ophthalmic Technician training program will be considered in lieu of experience.
Advanced medical history taking.
Ophthalmological testing and procedures (Visual acuity, pupil assessment, motility screening,Fundus photography, Worth 4-dot, titmus test, tono pen pressure, iCare applanation, Humphrey visual fields, pachymetry, auto and manual lensometry, Keratometry, OCT, A scan, SLE photos).
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Intermediate level word processing skills.
