The faculty mentor forthis position will be Dr. Ankush Gosain in the Department of Surgery, Divisionof Pediatric Surgery, UT Health Sciences Center, and Children's FoundationResearch Institute of Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. A Postdoctoral Fellow position isavailable beginning May 1, 2018. Our lab investigates interactions between theEnteric Nervous System and Gastrointestinal Mucosal Immune System in thepathogenesis of Hirschsprung-Associated Enterocolitis. Current grants are 1) neuro-immuneinteractions between the Enteric Nervous System, Intestinal Epithelium, andmicrobiota in the development of Hirschsprung-Associated Enterocolitis; 2)defining the role of Endothelin Receptor B (involved in neural crest cellmigration) during the development of hematopoietic organs and the developmentand function of B-lymphocytes in Endothelin Receptor B mutant animals; and 3) fundamentalmechanisms of Enteric Nervous System development, specifically the role of thecolonic microenvironment in regulating neural crest cell migration. The long-term goal of our research program isto gain an understanding of the interactions between the Enteric Nervous Systemand Gastrointestinal Immune System in both development and disease to permitthe generation of novel neuro-immunomodulatory therapies that may potentiallytarget a broad range of congenital and acquired pediatric gastrointestinaltract diseases (Hirschsprung disease, Necrotizing Enterocolitis, IntestinalAtresia, Motility Disorders, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, etc.).
