Academic Mentor Research Scientist – Research Services – Orlando
Florida Hospital Orlando seeks to hire Academic Mentor Research Scientist who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.
Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.
The Florida Hospital Research Institute (FHRI) provides the structure and support for research at Florida Hospital. Our research portfolio is continually evolving and, on average, there are over 500 open studies at any given time. Florida Hospital's research structure is a hybrid model encompassing both centralized and de-centralized components. There are 19 different Research Departments (de-centralized). Research Departments are typically aligned with a clinical service line such as Cancer, Cardiovascular or Neuroscience although several Research Departments are aligned with specific campuses such as Celebration, Winter Park Memorial and Children's. Research Departments take part in research studies that will expand care options and help establish FH as a global pace-setter in research.
The Academic Mentor Research Scientist is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that support student research that is conducted under the Learning Pillar of Florida Hospital. Promotes a professional environment, fostering critical thinking, problem solving while mentoring the clinical learners. Providing leadership in the development of assigned evidence based practice projects, procedures, standards of care, etc. Participate in scientific reviews of submitted/assigned multidisciplinary research protocols, while providing thorough critiques of said protocols. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Advanced knowledge of principles, practices and concepts of research
Advanced statistical background
Advanced knowledge of research methodologies
Advanced, independent ability to develop research protocols and mentor clinical students from GME, ADU, UCF and other collaborating institutions of higher learning
Advanced communication and writing skills
Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor graduate clinical students in research
methodology, statistics, protocol design and development, recruitment strategies, and manuscript preparation
Ability to secure external funding for the conduct of research through grants and other award programs (Preferred)
PhD in Research, Health Bio Behavioral or Biomedical
5 years of experience in Biomedical or Biobehavioral Research
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Current, valid State of Florida license as a Registered Nurse, MD or DO

Promotes a professional practice environment by fostering the spirit of inquiry, critical thinking, and problem solving among the clinical learners.
Provides leadership and mentoring to support the design, development, implementation, analysis and evaluation of clinical research projects according to American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).
Provides leadership and mentoring to the development of assigned evidenced based practice projects, policies, procedures, and standards of care based on AACN.
Mentors clinical students in applying research in clinical areas of practice based on AACN.
Mentors and supports clinical students in the dissemination of research findings.
Collaborates with affiliated academic faculty to facilitate the conduct of research or research utilization projects based on AACN.
Ensures research projects are aligned with the Florida Hospital Institutional Review Board (IRB), the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), rules and regulations, and the goals of the learning institution.
When possible, aligns student research with FH strategic priorities.
Actively participates in scientific review of submitted / assigned multidisciplinary research protocols.
Provides thorough critique and review of submitted / assigned multidisciplinary research protocols.
Actively participates in the development of research and evidence – base practice continuing educational offerings for clinical students.
Performs integrated reviews of the literature that address topics relevant to clinical practice specialties based on AACN.
Performs rigorous critique of evidence derived from databases to derive evidence for practice based on AACN.
Facilitates development of evidence-based guidelines using scales rating the level and quality of available evidence based on AACN.
Communicates effectively, in writing or through oral presentations, current research literature to all key stakeholders based on AACN.
Analyzes data / metrics and communicates results related to assigned projects based on AACN.
Performs other duties, as assigned by Leadership.
