This position is responsible for the development and execution of coding education programs including but not limited to evaluation and management coding, specialty specific/surgery coding, and ICD-10 diagnosis coding for Nemours providers and coding and billing staff at all sites. The position requires extensive travel to Nemours sites in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida. The Coding Educator will assist the Coding Integrity team to ensure correct coding, legal compliance and complete charge capture. In addition, this role will conduct coding audits and serve as a resource to Nemours associates regarding coding issues.
Conduct training sessions on provider based coding and billing guidelines
Develop educational curriculum and associated training materials
Perform quality assurance reviews to assess comprehension of training efforts
Organize and participate in coding and reimbursement meetings
Review and respond to coding questions
Research and provide updated coding information
Communicate coding/billing updates to physicians and billing staff
Conduct coding reviews and associated training programs to assure coding quality
Ensure billed services are accurately coded.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate thoughts and ideas
Must possess an extensive knowledge of coding, billing and compliance across a broad range of specialties.
Must also have experience working with Medicare and Medicaid coding requirements
Ability to apply billing compliance program rules, regulations, policies and procedures
Ability to communicate coding concepts to medical staff and management and work independently
Expert working knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS codes Experience in conducting audits and medical record reviews
AHIMA and/or AAPC coding certification required
At least 3-5 years of Coding Education experience
Position requires extensive travel
