The Associate Dean for Research oversees all School of Nursing (SON) research initiatives and related activities. The Associate Dean serves as the Executive Director for the Office of Nursing Research and is responsible for promoting and facilitating programs of research and scholarly productivity of the faculty. The primary responsibilities of the Associate Dean for Research include visionary planning for research initiatives, providing guidance to research-oriented faculty, obtaining research funding, and facilitating team science across the Schools within the university. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of funded research, proven organizational and managerial skills, experience building and maintaining partnerships across units, and demonstrated knowledge of trends in national funding and issues in higher education. The Associate Dean for Research reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing.

The School of Nursing has state of the art laboratories for behavioral and bio-behavioral research, a nursing simulation center and other faculty resources to enhance the research mission of the school. The UTMB campus is home to the University Hospitals and Clinics including the Jennie Sealy Hospital, Children's Hospital, Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital, the Biosafety Level 4 (BSL4) Lab, and the Galveston National Lab.
