The primary responsibility is to support students in all areas of their health. The position serves the entire student population, with emphasis to daily care to students for injuries and acute illness as well as long term management of students with chronic conditions. The nurse participate actively to develop health care plans and emergency protocols and includes the collection and review of yearly physical exam forms and immunization requirements. The Nurse reports directly to the Director of Academic Enrichment.

The Nurse’s responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
Administer first aid, emergency and preventative care to children in grades 6-12 and Lycée Français de New York employees
Help students to deal with stress and emotional issue
Act as a liaison between parents and school administrators concerning health and wellness issues
Research, write, and update letters to be sent home to parents regarding communicable conditions
Address parents regarding repeated or prolonged absences
Confer with parents, family physicians, etc., about special health-related concerns and notify Division Head if appropriate
Excuse students from physical education class; notify P.E. Department of physician-requested long-term absences
Provide ongoing assessment of the health needs of the Lycée Français de New York community
Expected to be able to teach health related topics in classroom settings throughout the school
Educate faculty and staff about student allergy and medical conditions
Educate students in areas including personal hygiene, physical development and personal safety
Arrange for specialists to teach Red Cross CPR and First Aid to staff members as well as speakers
on health related topics
Notify parent and faculty about health issues
Work with teachers, advisors and/or school counselor on projects when needed
Participate actively on wellness committees and task forces for the community
Maintain records and health forms for all current and incoming students during school year
Supervise student and employee medical records for emergency purposes and periodic review by
the City and State Boards of Health
Maintain accident reports for students
Maintain accident reports and statistics for employee work-related accidents in compliance with
Collect new health forms annually and check that are all requirements are met for students
Coordinate collection of health documents needed for sports leagues with the Athletic Director and Trainer
Collect, record, or update emergency contact forms annually
Prepare and replenish emergency backpacks for classrooms and trips
Provide safety and medical supplies for all student field trips
Attend faculty meetings and support team for high and middle school
Attend Student life meeting
Participate in school life
Cover first aid and emergency and preventive care during primary nurse lunch time
Attend field trip during the year
Other as required

Certification and Experience Requirements
New York State R.N. Licensure
B.S. or B.A.
5 years minimum experience with pediatric experience preferred
Nursing experience in a school setting is preferred
CME and CEU credits required
Bilingual French & English required
Able to work with multiple distractions and changing priorities
Able to work during off-peak and extended hours if needed
Enjoys working with adults and students
