The University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics, Section of Critical Care, is searching for a full-time faculty member. The successful applicant will provide coverage for the Comer Children's Hospital PICU and Sedation Services, and will demonstrate academic interest and/or potential for a research-based program in a field relevant to clinical practice, medical education, quality improvement, and/or policy-based interventions in pediatric critical care. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students. Compensation, including a generous package of fringe benefits, is dependent upon qualifications. We especially welcome applicants with at least 3 years of clinical practice experience beyond Fellowship training. Opportunities for leadership positions may be available to candidates with appropriate skills or expertise. The Section of Pediatric Critical Care has 13 full-time faculty members, a fully accredited fellowship program, and a 30 bed PICU. The Section also runs the Pediatric Sedation and Palliative Care Services. Faculty members are actively involved in research, quality improvement, and medical education initiatives. The PICU has approximately 1500 annual admissions with continued annual increase in volume over the past 5 years. We are the only level I Pediatric Trauma Center on the South Side of Chicago and the hospital is designated a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a national honor that recognizes nursing excellence. Additionally, we are an ELSO Center of Excellence at the Gold Level. Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) be Board certified or eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, and 4) have cared for complex and critically ill infants, children and adolescents during the past five years.
