Christiana Care Health System is recruiting for a Registered Nurse to work at the Ferris School Detention Center located in Wilmington, Delaware. This is a part time position, 20 hours/week. Every fourth weekend and holidays as required.
To be a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for residents at Ferris School and New Castle County Detention Center and provides care to these patients through the nursing process in collaboration with other health care team members.
Performs assessments and collects data on adolescent patients on admission and sick call
Manages patients within scope of practice with referral to physician or advanced practice nurse as required
Evaluates plan of care including patient response and outcomes according to established standards.
Assesses patient knowledge deficits and identifies learning needs and carries out appropriate patient education
Establishes and maintains a sound knowledge base of nursing care necessary for patient population
Responds effectively to emergencies and patient crisis situations
Adhere to universal precautions, established infection control practices, and established safety policies and procedures
Manages patient medication, administers dispensation safely and effectively
Interprets test values and reports abnormal values with follow-up in accordance with specific guidelines
Enters patient-related data into computer, utilizing the on-line software package, prepares computerized monthly reports as directed
Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to adolescent patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and to provide the care needed
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors
Performs other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
At least two years of nursing experience preferred
Previous experience working with adolescents preferred
Delaware RN licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Delaware
