The Ophthalmology Department will be hiring optometrists for a county wide mobile preschool vision screening project. Optometrists or OD's (doctors of optometry) provide comprehensive, primary vision care. They examine the patients eyes to diagnose vision problems and eye diseases and they test patients visual acuity, depth and color perception and the ability to focus and coordinate the eyes. Optometrists prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses and provide vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation. They analyze test results and develop a treatment plan. They can also administer drugs to patients to aid in the diagnosis of vision problems and may prescribe drugs to treat some eye diseases. The optometrists must be board certified and licensed by the California State Board of Optometry and have a California Topical Pharmaceutical Agents Certification. Must have completed an accredited course in the study of Optometry. The optometrists for the Pediatric Vision Project will be responsible for the vision screening and comprehensive eye examinations of preschool children in Orange County. The optometrists hired to staff the vision project bus will work primarily on the vision bus visiting the schools within the OC school districts. The optometrist must be able to use the electronic medical records system (EPIC). If they are not familiar with the software they will receive training. They must be familiar and have experience using the standard equipment for eye examinations of adults and children.
