Pediatric Emergency Medicine Opportunity – Geisinger Health System
Geisinger Health System (GHS) is seeking BC/BE Pediatric Emergency Physicians for the departments of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, on the campus of Geisinger Medical Center located in Danville, Pa.
Candidates will have dual appointments in Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics, and will actively participate in resident education in both departments. Clinical duties will be primarily centered in the emergency department but will include participation in the pediatric sedation service and pediatric acute care clinic.
Geisinger is seeking candidates with superior clinical and interpersonal skills and a strong desire to participate in program development, medical education and research. Candidates can be fellowship trained in PEM following either pediatric or emergency medicine residency.
Faculty appointment commensurate with experience is available through Temple University School of Medicine or Philadelphia College Osteopathic of Medicine.
Geisinger Medical Center’s 45-bed Emergency Department cares for 50,000 patients per year including nearly 8,000 pediatric patients. The pediatric admission rate from within the emergency department is around 20%, assuring a high acuity patient mix. Geisinger’s Knapper Clinic sees 8,800 pediatric urgent care patients annually. Additionally, Geisinger Medical Center is the receiving center for high acuity pediatric patients from 5 other GHS hospitals within our system’s primary service area, spanning 31 counties.
Children admitted from our emergency department are cared for in Geisinger’s Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, a 90 bed, 5 floor children’s hospital which includes a 14 bed PICU and a 41 bed NICU. Our Children’s Hospital provides a comprehensive range of pediatric services including a full array of medical and surgical subspecialties. Pediatric intensivists and hospitalists run a highly successful procedural sedation service performing over 1500 sedations per year. National collaborative data (Virtual PICU Systems, Vermont Oxford, and National Trauma Databank) have demonstrated that our inpatient services provide outstanding care to high acuity patients with outcomes comparable to leading children’s hospitals.
