Visit: www.stjameshealthcare.org Description SUMMARY In this position, the Lead Registration Specialist is responsible for Patient Access functions including, but not limited to, acting as a resource to the Registration Specialists, acting as a liaison between staff and management, gathering pertinent information from patients/families and registering patients at admission, performing a variety of general clerical, reception and record maintenance duties and processing primary and secondary billing information. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Customer Service Greets all patients, families and guests in a welcoming and friendly manner. Maintains professional communication with patients, families and guests at all times. Maintains confidentiality of patient information at all times. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with organizational mission and goals. Follows department and hospital policies and procedures Appropriately escorts patient to designated location ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Registration and Admission Process Interviews patient and/or family to obtain current, accurate and complete registration information. Accurately performs patient registration, obtaining demographic and insurance information and completing Medicare MSP and ABN's Initiates phone calls as needed to complete patient demographic information Completes appropriate paperwork with patient to ensure compliance with Medicare and Medicaid. Promptly reports issues to Registration Lead ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Insurance Verification Responsible for obtaining and verifying insurance benefits prior to patient arrival in the case of scheduled procedures. Responsible for forwarding new insurance/employer information to person responsible for maintaining those master files. Refers patients to the Financial Counselor for any assistance options as well as providing information on Medicaid and charity care applications Follows established procedures for collection of co-payments at time of registration ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead Responsibilities Identifies, makes recommendations, and schedules ongoing educational and training needs of Emergency department registrars. Assesses, plans, and implements orientation and new hire training program for registrars with the Patient Access Trainer and Supervisor. Mentors staff to increase personal and professional effectiveness by providing timely feedback on both acceptable and unacceptable performance/behavior. Oversees all Emergency department registration functions, copay collections and workflows. Assist's Patient Access Management in developing policies and procedures and ensuring compliance and EMTALA are addressed and monitored. Ensures co-pay collections are an expectation of each staff member Monitors co-pay collection for registration incentive program Facilitates the standardization of work flow and processes within the role of the registrar. Assists the Patient Access Supervisor with developing the Emergency department registration
