Responsible for helping maintain a therapeutic, nurturing, and relational milieu rooted in MSVH's philosophy. Provides a structured environment which includes setting consistent limits on behavior, clear and predictable expectations, and follow through. Keep children safe by remaining awake during entire shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Communicates professionally with caseworkers, families, visiting friends, and others outside the agency.
- Actively participates as a team member with agency staff.
- Communicates and works as a team player on the unit and throughout the morning routine.
- Supervises and is directly involved in children's daily hygiene routines, chores, and breakfast.
- Transports children using agency vehicles.
- Involved in activities and supervision of children at play, in groups and other activities throughout the shift.
- Provides a structured therapeutic milieu to maximize individual success in regards to service plans with direct and immediate intervention in crisis situations.
- Responsible to know and implement therapeutic crisis intervention techniques (i.e. TCI, time-out, and locked door quiet rooms) as well as procedures (i.e. runaway, injury, and emergency).
- Maintains unit cleanliness by performing chores such as laundry, cleaning, and organization.
- Conducts bed checks every 15 minutes. Assists children who wake during the night.
- Follows procedures to prepare and administer medications.
- Performs all responsibilities in a manner that is reflective of the mission and philosophy of Mount St. Vincent Home.
- Is sensitive to the cultural differences among the children, families and staff and responds appropriately and sensitively to those differences.
- Attends and participates in trainings and team meetings.
- Responsibly documents using agency forms such as, but not limited to, therapeutic physical managements, locked door quiet rooms, and other significant incidents.
- Responsible for documenting the following – Daily progress notes, monthly medication consultation sheets, quarterly milieu reports, shift and meal tracking sheets, medical appointments tracking sheets, and daily debriefing logs.
- Duties may include being responsible for creating and updating MARS, scheduling medical appointments, monitoring the budget, and monitoring outgoing and incoming prescriptions.
- Report and document client behaviors, unusual occurrences, and condition to appropriate staff members and complete necessary paperwork.
- Continually updates skills through active participation in supervision, education, reading, workshops, and in-services.
- Keeps current on certifications and training (i.e. TCI, QMAP, First Aid, CPR).
- Responsible for the completion of assigned unit duties such as
- Is proficient in managing and tracking children's need for various medical appointments
- Regularly accesses and uses the MSV Nurse's medication appointment email to track needs and schedule appointments
- Communicates with the team about the scheduling of appointments including verification of staff availability.
- Is aware of location of medical charts and medical identification cards to be accessed when necessary
- Is familiar with the appointment summary sheet that must be taken to appointments
- Turns in all necessary paperwork to MSV Nurse after completed appointments
- Is responsible for ensuring that new admits have accessed any necessary medical appointments within 30 days (physical, dental, vision).
- Can draft, edit, and produce the MAR for a residential cottage.
- Ability to identify different classes of medications.
- May record the UM's notes from the consult meeting, make changes to the MAR, and send notification of changes to the school

Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S.) from four year College or university and preferably one year of relevant experience with residential / milieu programming or serving children with psychological disabilities or a combination of college/work experience.
