Milwaukee, WI - Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW) is seeking a strategic and collaborative executive to serve as the next Chief Operating Officer (COO) for one of the country’s premier independent, freestanding children’s hospitals. The COO will also be Executive Vice President of Children’s Hospital and Health System (CHHS).
CHW is one of the nation's top pediatric hospitals, ranked fourth in the country by Parents® magazine and in nine specialties by U.S. News & World Report. It has more than 500 pediatric trained doctors who see children of all ages, for everything from serious procedures to routine checkups. Working to advance their vision - that the kids of Wisconsin will be the healthiest in the nation - CHW is the region's only independent health care system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. Children’s consists of several entities that provide a full spectrum of children's health care services, including its main 298-bed Milwaukee campus and a smaller satellite campus in Fox Valley (42 staffed beds). CHW's market share of pediatric inpatient discharges is very strong and about 90% in southeast Wisconsin, mostly around the metropolitan Milwaukee area. The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Children’s academic partner, brings many of the nation's most well-respected doctors. Children’s invests millions of dollars every year to keep kids in Wisconsin healthy, happy and safe. Total operating revenue for the system is approximately $1 billion, and net operating income is $32.2 million.
The COO is responsible for the overall planning, directing and monitoring of the day to day operations and activities consistent with CHW’s vision and strategy. Reporting to the CHHS President/CEO, Peggy Troy, the COO directs the process of developing new and innovative clinical strategies aimed at optimizing CHW’s growth, quality of care, service excellence, operational efficiencies, human resource management and financial performance. The COO is charged with leading all aspects of operations for CHW and the system’s ambulatory enterprise. She/he also serves as the key liaison between CHW and their academic partner, MCW.
The ideal candidate will have executive operations experience in a high performing health system. It is also highly desirable to have senior leadership experience in an academic medical center and/or children’s hospital. Most importantly, this leader must have a passion for pediatric healthcare and enjoy the operational and strategic challenges associated with being a part of a complex pediatric healthcare system. We seek individuals with strong emotional and social intelligence, and a demonstrated ability to connect with others in a meaningful way at all levels of an organization.
