The Athletic Trainer (AT) specializes in injury and illness education, prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of athletes and all physically active people, including the general public. The AT is also responsible for peer and community education. The AT works with persons of all ages and physical and mental disabilities.
- Works with the Montana Sports Medicine Program and Medical Director to identify needs for services in the community and all Southwest Montana, within the scope of athletic training.
- Identifies needs and facilitates development of programs and services to meet the needs of the community within the budget constraints of the sports medicine center. Prepares proposals and plans for services.

- Educates the athlete and/or patient and family as part of the treatment plan and rehabilitative process.
- Maintains injury tracking system for assigned schools.
- Maintains proper documentation on all athletes or patients.
- Maintains documentation on each service performed
- Maintains open communication with the athlete, coach and family of athlete, regarding progress and performance, as necessary and warranted.
- Works in compliance with each contract, with the Athletic Director and Montana Sports Medicine Program to develop coverage schedule.
- Communicates with medical and allied health professionals regarding athletes' progress, needs, return to sport, and discharge planning.
- Provides rehabilitative interventions.
- Performs athletic testing protocols.
- Maintains training areas, assuring the proper supplies and equipment are available, organized and neatly kept.
- Maintains current BLS Healthcare provider CPR Card.
- Maintains BOC Certified Status – in good standing.
- Maintains competency in areas outlined by the Athletic Training Practice Domains and the current Role Delineation Study.
- Adheres to the NATA Code of Ethics.
- Follows all BOC Standards of Professional Practice
- Adheres to all applicable state laws regarding scope of practice of athletic trainers
- Assists in planning and preparation as well as presentation of outreach activities. Will present business plans on assigned outreach programs to the Supervisor, Director and Medical Director of Montana Sports Medicine Center.
- Provides learner appropriate instruction in injury prevention, and injury management for the athlete or patient to use independently. Adapts conventional techniques to meet the needs of athletes and patients unable to comprehend verbal commands.
- Identifies family members and caregivers who may assist in the program as prescribed and provides appropriate education to them as well.
- Maintains documentation on each service performed.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment.
- Demonstrates behaviors consistent with organizational mission and goals.
- Follows all applicable hospital policies and procedures.
- Follows all service excellence standards.
- Participates in facility Quality Improvement/IOP Program
- Follows policies and procedures for infection control and facility safety in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Follows "Patients Rights Policy" at all times.
- Demonstrates knowledge of information management as appropriate.

- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or Masters degree from four-year college or university
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
