Bellevue Women's Center , a service of Ellis Medicine, is the region’s only inpatient facility dedicated to the care of women and infants - a trusted name in women's health for three-quarters of a century. Bellevue’s OB/GYN services include breast care, surgery, gynecologic care and maternity, and feature the region's first OB/GYN Hospitalist program to deliver enhanced care for pregnant women. Seeeking a Patient Care Manager to function as the Clinical Manager of the Labor and Delivery unit for an assigned shift. Provides support to the Inpatient Director of Nursing for planning, coordination, staffing, and supervision of nursing care delivery to ensure efficient and effective patient care. Ensures compliance with departmental and regulatory standards of care and practice.
The Patient Care Manager will work collaboratively with the Director to plan, implement, and monitor the nursing care delivery system to assure effective and efficient utilization of staff and other resources for the delivery of patient care.
Creates daily assignments that reflect appropriate assignments for all staff and their responsibility for patient care based on skill levels and patient care needs.
Assists in patient flow and coordination of patient care/flow.
Discuss with staff the effectiveness of systems in place with focus on continuous improvement noted for the shift for which she/he is responsible.
Assures that an adequate number of nursing personnel are scheduled and available to meet patient care needs which Includes proactively analyzing resources and personnel needs.
Manages unscheduled absences and tardiness according to policy.
Assesses and reassigns staff members in emergency situations, to effectively and efficiently meet the needs of the unit and organization.
Collaborates with the Director to create an environment for staff participation in performance improvement activities that assures that the care of the particular patient population meets or exceeds institutional and regulatory standards.
Maintains current knowledge of nationally recognized standards of care and nursing practice for populations served.
Works in collaborative manner with unit core group and staff to track and trend key process and outcome data. Assumes leadership role in addressing issues identified.
Demonstrates clinical competence in the provision of nursing care for individual patients and populations as defined in unit scope of service. Functions as resource to clinical staff in providing patient care.
Coordinates patient care plans on the units that are current, concise, and pertinent to the patient and reflect priorities of care.
Provides ongoing communication, coordination, and collaboration with all members of the Health Care Team and develops effective professional working relationships with other organizational leaders.
Promotes an environment that enhances safety, communication and satisfaction for patients and staff.
Works with the Director to accurately interpret the NYSNA contract and personnel policies to unit staff. Participates in hiring, discipline, and termination practices to achieve and maintain optimal nursing care delivery on the unit.
Completes performance appraisals timely and they reflect the provision of a framework for ongoing development of an employee.
Currently licensed in New York State as an Registered Nurse and a graduate of an approved school of nursing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required, MSN preferred.Two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in the acute care setting preferred

Clinical Ladder Program
Ellis Medicine offers a clinical ladder program called Clinical Achievement and Recognition of Excellence (CARE). The clinical ladder program includes six levels and based on points. Each level requires additional points and education. Upon completion of the clinical ladder program, a celebration is held and nurses are given a monetary reward.
Journey to Magnet Designation
Ellis is currently on its Magnet Journey. Ellis nurses are divided into four teams (Exemplary Professional Practice, New Knowledge & Innovations, Leadership and Nursing Empowerment). Each team has a different focus and unit-based forums to address specific issues. Nurses participate in decision making and changes.
