This position isresponsible for managing the regulatory functions and conduct of researchprotocols, such that the integrity and quality of the clinical/translationalresearch is maintained and the research is conducted in accordance with GoodClinical Practice Guidelines, federal and sponsor regulations and guidelines,Vanderbilt Policy and Procedure and research protocols.
1. Independentlyoversee research projects and perform near to totally independent research.
a. Supervise, plan,design and implement research projects
b. Establishprotocol(s); define data collection, evaluation and analysis procedures
2. Supervisescientific data collection and analyses for research project(s) requiring independentinterpretation of complex research data
3. Exercisediscretion and independent judgment to develop methods and procedures foroperation of complex scientific equipment.
a. Supervise set-upand operation of various scientific experiments involving complex apparatus andequipment
4. Contribute toresearch to merit serving as author or co-author on research publications, etc.
a. Assist principalinvestigator in preparation of grant applications and contract proposals
b. Present researchfindings as needed
5. Responsible forplan and coordination of literature and library searches and data collectionprograms
a. Develop reportsof results, graphs, charts, tables, etc. of research findings
b. Supervisewriting, reviewing and editing of various materials for publication
6. Providesupervisory responsibility to staff
a. Train andsupervise technical staff, medical and graduate students
b. Providetechnical guidance to students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty as required
7. Provide budgetresponsibility
a. Makerecommendations to principal investigator regarding staff, supply and equipmentneeds for research projects
b. May monitorexpenditures of funds
8. Maintain opencommunication between department and others
a. Open contact asneeded with principal investigator, collaborating professionals, Purchasing,Human Resource Services, Space and Facilities Planning, asset managementpersonnel, Environmental Health and Safety, Institutional Review Board staff,administrative staff relating to budget capabilities
b. Contact asrequired with sponsoring agencies and/or cooperating facilities (e.g. V.A.),collaborating professionals and vendors
Bachelor'sDegree (or equivalent experience) and 7 years experience
