This position is in the Department of Pediatrics Ambulatory Care. The position is located at Richardson Crossing in Arnold, MO.
Responsible for non-clinical interaction with patients and families.� Interacts directly with patients and families to schedule appointments, register demographics, obtain insurance information, and enter the information in to the EPIC system.� Determines and collects co-payments, percentage payments, and self-payments.� Obtains or verifies referrals for managed care plans. Responsible for pre-arrival work as it relates to patient registration and insurance eligibility. Works under the direct guidance of the Clinical Office Supervisor and the administrative guidance of the Director of Clinical Services.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for ensuring that the HIPAA Privacy Notice has been offered, consent form initialed and signed, and acknowledgement of this is documented in EPIC.
Obtain and enter into the EPIC fields all demographic and insurance information completely and accurately after parent review of face sheet.
Determine required payments from Appointment Manager. Collect the payment, print receipt and document in EPIC. Co-pay collection rate must be 90% or greater.
Offer Patient My Chart enrollment.
Check insurance information two weeks prior to visit, contact PCP for referrals as needed, enters referral information into the EPIC scheduling system. If no referral information prior to visit, obtain day of visit.� If unable to obtain referral, the physician must be notified.
Verify insurance eligibility on all patients before the date of service.� All Medicaid must be verified on each date of service. All other plans must be verified when the patient is new, the insurance has been changed, or it is greater than 180 days since last insurance verification. Verification should be done through e-commerce, WEBMD, contacting the insurance company or by past payment history.
Schedules new and return patient appointments.
Reviews physician schedules in EMR for completion of Encounter form.
Follow POS Payment Policy at end of day closing procedures.
Disburse parking validation with each visit.
Correct duplicate accounts that have been created.
Responsible for following HIPAA regulations at end of day closing.
Maintains HIPAA compliance, skills/competencies and participates in in-services, staff programs, continuing education and cross training programs according to established standards and Washington University policies.
Compiles with OSHA, state and federal regulatory sources/standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma with 3 years of experience in billing systems and third-party claims and/or experience in a medical office setting or related customer service/office experience.
Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and working knowledge of insurance and financial options.
Interactive communication skills with the ability to work with physicians, patients, families, and support staff.
Strong organizational and telephone skills, and experience/knowledge of Pc’s; electronic EMR and electronic scheduling and registration systems.
Pediatric experience preferred.
The hiring range for this position is $15.54 - $19.05 per hour.
