The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine, and Seattle Children's Hospital are seeking a qualified individual to serve as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine. The full time, 12-month appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (non-tenure track) in the Clinical-Educator or Clinician-Scientist pathway, with an estimated start date of July 2019 or soon thereafter.
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington is a leading academic department that includes faculty at Seattle Children's, Harborview Medical Center, the University of Washington Medical Center, and the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System. With 120 total faculty and 50 Physician faculty, UW Rehabilitation Medicine operates the largest Rehabilitation Medicine program in the Northwest region of the United States.
Seattle Children's is a 350 bed hospital committed to family centered care, patient safety, teaching and research. It serves as the primary pediatric hospital for the Seattle Metropolitan and Puget Sound areas as well as the tertiary referral center for the Pacific Northwest states including Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. The Rehabilitation Medicine program at Seattle Children's operates a twelve bed inpatient unit and performs over 4,500 outpatient visits / year. Rehabilitation Services at Seattle Children's is comprised of both inpatient and outpatient care. Outpatient therapies account for over 57,000 ambulatory and 23,000 regional clinic visits/year. Inpatient therapies receive over 3,500 orders/year from inpatient units across the hospital.
The Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine at Seattle Children's includes five physicians, two advanced practice providers, five psychologists, 62 physical therapists, 39 occupational therapists and 32 speech and language pathologists; all are integral members of the department. The majority of Division faculty work takes place at Seattle Children's and the Director of the Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine is responsible for the oversight of the mission at Seattle Children's, insuring excellence in clinical operations, training programs, and fostering the success of the faculty in their academic efforts.
The Division Chief will promote the research program, including projects sponsored by external research funding. The Chief will also administer the multidisciplinary educational program in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine including training, research, and clinical work. The Division Chief will manage the business aspects of the division and be responsible for the division's efforts in process improvement and patient safety.University of Washington Faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Meet qualifications for an appointment as an associate professor level or higher in the clinician educator or scientist tracks (without tenure due to funding)
Leadership experience with demonstrated ability to foster the success of others
Recognized leader in the field of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine
Track record of academic scholarship in education and/or discovery
Licensed physician with a history of medical practice in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine
Eligible to practice medicine in the state of Washington
Must have an MD or DO (or foreign equivalency)
Must have board certification in Rehabilitation Medicine and either board certification in Pediatrics or Rehabilitation Medicine subspecialty certification in Pediatric Rehabilitation
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1-B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
