Assist Wilmington Hospital Dental patients in achieving and maintaining optimum Oral Health. Assesses the patient's oral tissues and overall health determining the presence or absence of disease, other abnormalities and disease risks.
WORK HOURS:Thursday and Friday ( 8am to 4:30pm)
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Examines, assists and thoroughly documents oral conditions, including those of the head and neck region, through the use of clerical measurement, radiographs and other assessment methods.
Removes hard and soft deposit with ultrasonic/hand instrumentation and polishing of supra gingival crowns. Develops individualized oral hygiene programs for home care.
Performs diet analysis and counseling for dental care control and prevention.
Educates patients, the general public and special population groups particularly the children regarding oral health.
Plans and conducts oral health programs for the children within the community.
Implements a periodontal disease program and protocol.
Applies decay prevention agents such as flouride and sealants.
Maintains inventory of dental hygiene supplies.
Assists other dental staff when necessary.
Participates in committees, advocacy and outreach efforts as requested, encouraging staff to participate as well.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established department safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene Program based in an institution of higher learning. Two year's dental hygienist experience.
