Assistant Vice President Marketing & Communications - 1900172
Reporting to the Vice President of Communications and Marketing/Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, the AVP of Marketing & Communications is responsible for the development and implementation of a growth oriented comprehensive strategic marketing and advertising program that effectively communicates and perpetuates the Stony Brook Medicine mission, improves reputation and ensures overall alignment of institutional brand messaging and image with the Stony Brook Master Brand.
This executive will design, implement and monitor effective marketing strategies that align with SBM business goals to drive break through transformation of our organizational culture and revamp engagement with consumers. The individual is a strategic, big picture thinker, has a solid marketing background and work experience managing a variety of tactical promotional projects end-to-end, including paid advertising campaigns and digital marketing techniques. They will oversee internal and external marketing and communications teams and will be intricately involved in a significant role shaping the company's strategic marketing planning, ensuring that the marketing department's activities contribute to SBM long-term success and business objectives. They are responsible for developing and coordinating marketing and communications and making a significant impact on the future of the organization and the health of the population it serves.
The AVP will develop and implement a cohesive strategic marketing and communication plan that integrates the SBM system to increase brand awareness and market positioning. The position is responsible for planning, development, implementation, and success monitoring of marketing, communications, community relations, and digital strategies for SBM. They will document and drive performance goals, monitor measures of success and use market research and analytics to drive decision making.
This position will work with executive leadership, service line managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that all marketing and communications initiatives are aligned and support new and existing business and strategic goals of the system. This position manages all internal and external communications, directs the creation of content for the internal and external website and oversees development and production of our publications and advertising initiatives. Additionally, they drive Agency relationships, collaborate with Media Relations, make presentations to Senior Management and monitor market and competitor activities .
The AVP will play a key role on the Vice President's leadership team, providing broad departmental leadership, oversight and management, setting departmental priorities and direction and managing resources while also developing key marketing, communications and advertising strategies and campaigns. Reporting into the AVP will be the Sr. Director for Public Affairs and Marketing and the Sr. Director of Content and Communications. The AVP will also have a dotted line report to the SVP, Stony Brook Medicine and work closely with the CEO of Stony Brook University Hospital and the VP for Clinical Programs.
Required Qualifications :
· Bachelor's degree with extensive professional experience in marketing, branding and communications
· Minimum of 10 years of experience working in marketing and communications field, with most recent experience in a senior level position
· Demonstrated skills in managing, motivating and supporting staff of varied talents with proven results in building a high-performing and cohesive marketing and communications team
· Proven track record of developing and executing integrated marketing and brand strategies
· Understanding and knowledge of higher education marketing principles and industry trends and direction
· Demonstrated experience in planning, writing, and producing communications plans and materials, including presentation and presentation design skills
· Demonstrated experience with digital communications strategies and new media
· Thorough understanding and expertise in SEM, paid search, SEO and content marketing
· Proficiency with web and marketing analytics platforms
· Knowledge of graphic design best practices and proven creative direction experience
· Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
· Ability to create effective relationships, influence and collaborate internally and externally at all levels
· Ability to foster an environment of teamwork and collaboration
· Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously; manage complex projects
· Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior Marketing/Communications experience in a hospital setting preferred.
