This position is on the Clinical Pathways team within the department of Patient Safety and Quality at Boston Children's Hospital. These care pathway projects involve a range of data collection methods and toolsets for enabling quality improvement and continuous optimization of clinical decision support. All our care standardization projects are aimed at improving patient outcomes, reducing unwarranted practice variation among clinicians, and optimizing the decision support process for our clinicians.
The Healthcare Data Analyst will be responsible for:
Providing data support for aggregation of healthcare data into information for quality outcomes and process assessment to support departmental reporting needs.
Combining a variety of data sources across our pathway projects into useful datasets and dashboards for monitoring program goals and quality improvement progress.
Researching, designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining reporting and analytical facilities in the context of our program. The ideal candidate will be familiar with using data for process improvement within healthcare delivery organizations, and will be comfortable learning new software applications and tools as they are incorporated into our evolving workflows.
To qualify, you must have:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field and a minimum of three to five years of experience. One year of applicable experience within a pediatric healthcare setting is preferred.
Technical awareness of coding systems, data types and data structures used to store clinical, demographic, and financial data in healthcare databases is a plus.
Knowledge of clinical concepts, terminology and workflow – preferably as they apply to pediatrics.
Experience with computer-based reporting and analysis tools such as: Microsoft Access, SAS, R and R Studio, Google Analytics, REDCap, MicroStrategy or Tableau is preferred.
Understanding of the value and use of standardized definitions, calculations, naming, and data storage conventions when working with such tools.
Understanding of basic relational database concepts, SQL syntax, and coding practices. In addition, familiarity with dimensional data modeling concepts used in data warehousing, business intelligence and business analytics applications would be a big plus.
Ability to translate reporting needs expressed in clinical or operational terms to technical solutions based on existing data, data structures and query tool functionality.
Ability to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediating fair and workable solutions.
