The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Department of Psychiatry invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term pediatric psychologist. The successful candidate will join a team of Pediatric Psychologists who consult to the NC Children's Hospital inpatient pediatric floors as well as outpatient pediatric specialty clinics.
Clinical responsibilities include providing assessment and treatment in inpatient and outpatient settings with a population of toddlers through young adults with acute and chronic illness. These conditions include children with cystic fibrosis, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic kidney disease, lupus, and neurological conditions including seizure disorders and migraines. Children with burn injuries or injuries from motor vehicle accidents are seen for brief intervention to address acute traumatic stress. Children with functional neurological disorders are also frequently referred for consultation.
The successful candidate will provide longer term psychotherapy; strong training in CBT skills, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy helpful. Teaching activities will include participation in the training of psychology externs/interns, post-doctoral fellow, and pediatric and psychiatry medical residents/fellows. There is also the opportunity for conducting professional lectures and training seminars.
Twenty percent of time will be at the UNC Spine Center providing integrated behavioral health services to adults with a variety of problems including weight management, chronic pain, adjustment and coping with chronic illness, and compliance with medical recommendations.
Education and Experience:
Applicants with strong therapy skills and experience in the treatment of children/adolescents with chronic illness; the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary environment; interest and experience working with under served population; must have a NC license or license eligible.
