Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Business Manager.
In this role, the successful candidate will manage the pathology department's business and financial programs. Management of Tisch Pathology and ACC Pathology financial and business operations and assists with oversight/management of Langone Orthopedic Hospital Pathology, Perlmutter Cancer Center Pathology, and NYU Brooklyn Pathology financial and business operations when necessary. Additionally, responsible for assisting with daily pathology operations; including management of inventory (equipment and supplies), capital planning, courier services , payroll, contract management, billing practices, onboarding new practices, development and maintenance of relevant policies and procedures as they relate to financial management, and effectively communicating with pathology vendors when necessary. Must be self-directed and have ability to make complex decisions independently.
Fiscal & Strategic Planning: Works with directors and laboratory managers in planning and ensuring the most cost effective method of delivering quality services is implemented. Prepares business and operational plans for new ventures including pathology space planning, equipment purchasing, product replacements, inventory control, reagent rental contracts, performance maintenance contracts, outsourced lab services contracts, test menu/service expansion, and business growth. Assists in preparation of staffing, non-salary and capital requests.
Provides input for the development and implementation of new programs, services, and workflow changes. Assists in assessing the financial progress of all new ventures in the department. Works with outside clinician groups and the FGP to increase pathology business and supply support when necessary.
Prepares annual personnel, and supply expense budgets for pathology. Maintains budget spreads and monitors and manages variances in revenue and expenses during the fiscal year. Creates budget modifications when necessary.
Identifies and recommends cost reduction/containment and revenue enhancement programs. Assists in implementation and monitoring when appropriate. Works with managers and directors when necessary to achieve improvements.
Reviews reports, analysis, and opportunities with groups such as GNYHA and UHC to ensure best practice, pricing, and rebates. Recommend corrective actions as identified.
Manages Tisch hospital pathology billing practices as applicable. Specifically as it relates to Epic charge capture reporting errors and send-out billing management. Develops and runs reports to track volume growth and expenses. Triages patient billing concerns.
Prepares Shared Laboratory financial analysis, invoicing, reconciliation, and billing audits.
Courier Services: Oversees courier services contract and operational management of the courier program.
Onboarding new practices: Responsible for on-boarding new physician practices in conjunction with the appropriate laboratory managers. This includes determining ability to absorb new practice, setting up the client accounts, providing all necessary information to them, developing practice scorecards and tracking revenue associated with all new business.
Development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures as they relate to financial management/ purchasing activities.
Initiative, working independently and as a member of the management team, time utilization and multi-tasking essential.
Establishes and maintains monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reconciliation processes (including but not limited to: volume compilation, variance reviews and justifications, transfers and accruals in e-finance, and vendor spending (test analysis).
Manages accounts payable and purchasing processes for the department. This includes invoice reconciliation for all outsourced services prior to approving payment. Ensuring that patients are not billed for any institutional billing processes with outside vendors.
Capital management oversight: Creates and Maintains capital equipment list for department, tracks annual spend on capital equipment, works with sourcing to finalize capital quotes and submits capital requests for approval as required. Works with vendors to maintain favorable contract pricing works with managers to ensure all PM contracts are in place annually.
Contract Management: Manages maintenance of all contracts for the department. Works with legal and/or sourcing to maintain all contracts and works with sourcing and vendors to secure favorable pricing and operational processes for the department. Works with various departmental directors and managers to ensure operational processes are reflected within the contract terms.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Masters Degree in Public Health, Business, or health administration field. Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications: 5+ years work experience in Pathology and/or in financial and business management.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
