Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Genetics Counselor for the department of Pediatrics at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Pediatric Medical Genetics Counselor provides clinical Pediatric and Perinatal genetic counseling services, under physician supervision, when needed, for families and/or pregnancies at risk or suspected of having a genetic condition. Additional responsibilities include delegation, direction, and supervision of the activities involving genetic counseling students.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides genetic counseling evaluation and follow-up as part of a team in the Pediatric Medical Genetic Division at the Rutgers Health, Child Health Institute of New Jersey and The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Participates in pediatric genetic clinic and in-patient service.
Collects family history and clinical information.
Informs patient of risks, appropriate genetic testing.
Obtains precertification for genetic testing.
Prepares detailed reports for patients and physicians.
Provides pre and post-test genetic counseling and support.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling or its equivalent required within six (6) months of hire.
Board Certified or Board Eligible Genetic Counselor- American Board of Genetic Counseling (AMGC).
Documentation of training in genetic counseling techniques and experience in genetic counseling at a site accredited by the American Board of Medical Genetics (AMBG) or the American Board of Genetic Counseling (AMGC).
Preference will be given to applicants who are board certified or eligible for board certification.
Familiarity with the medical and research community in genetics as well as appropriate community resources pertaining to genetic family studies and new technologies in diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders.

Physical Demands: standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift or exert force up to 25 pounds.
