BCH receives international patients from around the world that are highly complex. The families of these patients seek treatment at BCH because of care that is uniquely available here. We have a longstanding history of caring for children from across the globe, and receive more international patients by far than any other children's hospital in the world. This population is critically important to BCH's future growth goals.
The International Medical Service (IMS) is a group of consulting physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses who work with the medical teams to coordinate the care of our international patients through all phases of their clinical experience at Boston Children's Hospital. We are seeking another registered nurse to join our team.
The International Medical Services Staff Nurse will be responsible for:
Working directly with the attending physicians on the International Medical Service to screen international patients for eligibility for acceptance to Boston Children's Hospital for treatment
Collaborating with our subspecialty teams to determine whether travel to Boston would be of diagnostic or therapeutic benefit to these patients.
Creating comprehensive Plans of Care that will allow for targeted evaluation and therapy.
Participating in Clinical Arrivals Clinic for new international patients.
Collaborating with our multidisciplinary clinical and administrative teams to coordinate care for international patients both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Creating Treatment Summary Plans based on review and synthesis of clinic notes, labs and studies. These documents are used to update international payors and to advocate for ongoing patient coverage when needed.
Assessing and triaging international outpatients who may need urgent evaluation in primary care or the Emergency Department.
To qualify, you must have:
A Bachelors in Nursing (BSN).
Minimum of 5 years of pediatric nursing experience.
Experience managing pediatric complex care, and/or outpatient clinic experience preferred.
Strong leadership skills, and written and communication skills required.
Ability to work 30-40 hours per week, with flexibility to work either 10 or 8 hour shifts.
