The RN Oncology and Infusion Coordinator is a chemotherapy patient navigator and advocate. The coordinator is responsible for teaching patients and families about chemotherapy drugs, chemotherapy administration, possible side effects, home management of the patient, and treatment schedule for each patient. He or she participates in the monitoring of treatment regimens for NCCN appropriateness and assists the authorization team to ensure they have the clinical data needed. The coordinator is the liaison between the physician/physician team, financial counseling team, infusion team, and pharmacy. He or she will review the chemotherapy orders for accuracy and completeness as a double check prior to the start of therapy. The coordinator supervises, in close cooperation with the physician, outpatient chemotherapy for research protocol patients. It is important that the coordinator follows IV and oral treatment patients through the continuum of care to ensure compliance.
Responsible for teaching patients and families about chemotherapy drugs, chemotherapy administration, possible side effects, home management of the patient, and treatment schedule for each patient. Participates in the monitoring of treatment regimens for NCCN appropriateness and assists the authorization team to ensure they have the clinical data needed. Outlines treatment schedule for each patient. Reinforces teaching. Supervises, in close cooperation with the physician, outpatient chemotherapy for research protocol patients. Follows treatment patients through the continuum of care. Participates in oral compliance tracking. Responsible for participating in the Patient Safety and Quality Care Committees.
Preferred to have Infusion and/or Oncology experience.
