Community Outreach Worker II (Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, & Gender Diverse Youth Population) - (1900005F)
The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine is seeking a Community Outreach Worker II for the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Immunology and Rheumatology. Under general supervision, the Community Outreach Worker II works to reduce barriers to accessing primary care by providing linkage-to-care services and adherence support services for transgender youth, gender non-conforming youth, and gender diverse populations, their families, partners between ages 12 - 26.
This position will join the STAR-TRACK team (Special Teens At-Risk - Together Reaching Access, Care, and Knowledge) in its mission to provide comprehensive interdisciplinary, individualized, and confidential health care to infants, children, youth, and young adults living with or at risk of acquiring HIV/AIDS. STAR-TRACK conducts research contributing to the knowledge of and improvement of health, risk reduction and reduction of HIV transmission and trains and educates professionals regarding gender and sexuality, youth care and engagement, structural oppression, and HIV prevention.

Provides crisis intervention through individual counseling, providing basic health education, assisting clients in accessing various social services, and referring clients to alternate care facilities.
Conducts initial assessment in order to determine individual client needs.
Speaks before neighborhood groups and attends community meetings to establish communication and rapport; to promote services; and assist in resolving problems facing the community. Prepares and distributes informational literature.
Participates in the evaluation of materials and methods designed to meet the educational needs of the client community.
Schedules clients for appointments with heath care providers, reminds them of pending appointments and contracts them to inquire into reasons for missed appointments.
May provide guidance and training over other outreach workers.
Performs all of the duties of a Community Outreach Worker I.
Education: High-school diploma or GED.
Experience: Two years in community outreach, health care, research, and/or social services.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of transgender, gender non-conforming and gender diverse populations and their barriers and healthcare access.
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed for outreach events (at least 3 times a month).
General knowledge of community and/or social service resources and programs.
Skill in conducting interviews and assessing client needs.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to operate computers and other office equipment.
Ability to write reports and maintain records.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
Ability to perform extensive standing and walking.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
Ability to interact with the public, health care providers, community organizations, and social service agencies.
Ability to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure.
Based on the contractual status of this position, selected candidates are not eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).
Salary Range: $30,962 - $35,000
