The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Pediatrics, is seeking a Research Technician. The basic research laboratory uses in vitro and in situ models to study bacterial lung pathogenesis. The research technician will utilize bacterial genetic protocols and molecular biology techniques to make mutant and reporter strains, expression plasmid vectors, and transposon libraries.
The technician will also perform microscopy and basic microbiology techniques to study bacterial biofilm formation. Additional responsibilities include preparing and disposing of reagents necessary for research, preparing sputum samples for imaging, helping to develop research methods and procedures, and organizing data and laboratory specimens. Some interaction with the genomics research core may be required. Strong computer skills are important as is the ability to analyze, organize, interpret, and present data both verbally and in writing.
An Associate's degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, biomedical engineering, or related scientific field is required. Bachelor's preferred. Some experience in a laboratory, specifically with molecular biology or bacteriology is desired. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
