This Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for:
Participating in clinic sessions with surgeons to perform comprehensive health histories and physical exams, diagnose surgical conditions, and formulate and implement individualized surgical treatment plans.
Conducting independent nurse practitioner clinic visits for routine post-operative follow-up appointments, simple returns, and for teaching visits; bill for services and document encounter within the electronic medical record.
Performing comprehensive health histories and physical exams for patients undergoing surgical procedures with hospital admission and provide necessary pre-operative patient/family education.
Ordering necessary diagnostic testing, including laboratory and radiology studies, interpret results and complete appropriate therapeutic follow-up.
Obtaining and documenting medication and allergy histories, perform medication reconciliation, safely prescribe over-the-counter and prescription medications and providing necessary safe medication administration teaching according to prescriptive authority guidelines.
Assisting with surgical procedures in the clinic setting.
Providing support, education and resources to patients with chronic needs.
Assisting in coordination and continuity of care through accommodation for same day urgent add-on patient visits, facilitation of diagnostic work-up and direct admission to surgical services with admission orders; on-going collaboration with inpatient General Surgery NP colleagues and unit staff .
Coordinating and performing telephone triage.
Maximizing use of technology in everyday practice including tele health initiatives.
Participating in formal and informal teaching activities with staff nurses, physicians, interns, residents, and other members of the health care team.
Engaging in open communication with community providers including primary care providers, visiting nurse associations, durable medical equipment providers, pharmacies, school nurses, and community health care practices.
Being available for consultation with inpatient team for CDH patients.
To qualify, you must have:
MSN in nursing, graduate of a certified NP program (Pediatric and/or Family certification.
MA NP license.
1-3 years of experience as a PANP/FNP required, preferably in surgery, but not required.
