Required Qualifications:(As evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree or higher in biomedical sciences or related fields with some prior experience in cancer biology and relevant signaling. A proven record of productivity as demonstrated by first author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Practical and significant lab research experience in DNA and protein works. Strong molecular, cellular, and biochemical skills on cancer cell lines. Research experience in cancer, ubiquitin signaling, or the DNA damage response and DNA repair. Experience with flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy.
The postdoctoral associate will assist Dr. Hyungjin Kim in the department of Pharmacological Sciences, SUNY Stony Brook (kimlabstonybrook.weebly.com). The incumbent will conduct research to identify and characterize new genome surveillance factors at the replication fork and elucidate the signaling of DNA replication fork protection under replication stress (Jo et al., 2016; Rageul et al., 2019). We employ various cellular, genetic, and biochemical approaches to study replication fork dynamics and its deregulation in adverse pathological conditions such as the BRCA1 & 2 deficiency in breast and ovarian cancer. Our overarching goal is to translate the knowledge to clinical settings by developing novel therapeutic interventions that exploit deregulated DNA repair of cancer cells. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Design and perform experiments to understand the mechanism of DNA damage response and repair
Collect and analyze data utilizing specialized knowledge and skills in related fields
Participate in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals. May assist in grant writing.
Maintain lab equipment and common stocks.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include supervising lab members and attending conferences and meetings.
Strong written and communication skills.
Other duties as assigned.
