Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, UTHSC
Summary of Position

o Supports alignment of the clinical mission with the education, advocacy, and research missions within the Department of Pediatrics and with hospital partners
o Assists the Executive Director of the University of Tennessee Le Bonheur Pediatric Specialists (ULPS) practice plan with oversight of physicians in ULPS
o Promotes growth of service lines and the academic clinical practice

The Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Pediatrics will:
Work with the Chair of Pediatrics to build and enhance partnerships with Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and St. Jude Children's Hospital. The VC will work directly with the individual hospital leadership at the SVP and VP level (Le Bonheur) and EVP level (St. Jude) while keeping the Chair apprised. Interactions with hospital CEO/Presidents will typically be done with both the Chair and VC meeting with leadership.
Work with the ULPS Executive Director and designees to plan and align with the Department the strategic direction and decision making in operations of the practice plan. The VC will be proxy for the authority of the Chair for day to day operations and will make operational decisions with practice plan leadership.
Work with the Executive Director of ULPS and the St. Jude Clinical Director and St. Jude Chairs of Clinical Departments to plan and align the strategic direction of ULPS, clinical operations, affiliation and contract agreements with St. Jude. Manage day to day operational issues regarding clinical service delivery by ULPS physicians at St. Jude as they arise.
Work with clinical Division Chiefs to grow and align the clinical enterprise in keeping with Division-level Strategic Plans and the overall Le Bonheur strategic plan.
Assist service line leaders with achieving clinical and quality goals.
Monitor clinical, workforce, financial, and quality metrics from Divisional Dashboards and work with clinical Division Chiefs to meet goals related to those metrics and the related strategic plans.
Work with the Executive Director of ULPS and Division Chiefs to oversee the hiring and orientation of faculty, with final approval of hires from the Chair of Pediatrics, Executive Dean of the College of Medicine, and Executive Director of ULPS.
At times the Department of Pediatrics and ULPS must address issues related to clinical compliance. The VC will be the lead for the Department of Pediatrics, working with ULPS, when these situations arise.
Other duties as assigned by the Chair of Pediatrics.
Requires an MD or equivalent degree, and board certification or board eligibility in a Pediatric specialty that is currently posted as needed on the faculty job board
Must be able to obtain a State of Tennessee medical license.
Position requirements and characteristics of the successful candidate include:
Must be a practicing physician and able to obtain clinical privileges at Le Bonheur and St. Jude and a medical license from the State of Tennessee.
Leadership experience in a comprehensive academic medical center and children's hospital
Significant experience working with hospital and practice plan administration
Practicing knowledge and experience in implementing quality or process improvement efforts and the triple aim
Absolute integrity, ethical and moral behavior, and adherence to strict privacy and confidentiality standards
A demonstrated track record as an effective manager with a participatory style; should be a mentor, coordinator, delegator, developer and coach.
System thinker. Anticipates future consequences and trends accurately; has broad knowledge and perspective; is future oriented
