Embedded in the Boston Children's Hospital research community and in collaboration with other members of Research Computing, the Sr. Bioinformatics Specialist will work as a facilitator to empower pediatric researchers. Members of our community have varying levels of genomics expertise and work on a range of diverse disease areas including rare diseases. The position will support human research with advanced and novel analytical workflows to facilitate discovery and scholarly publications. The ideal candidate should have enthusiasm for developing collaborative relationships and a desire to foster the use of pediatric genomic data in research studies.
Excellent written and verbal communication, an ability to translate complex and domain-specific information for non-specialists and the ability to empathize with the needs of nontraditional users
Effectiveness and comfort in teaching and public speaking
A positive attitude and ability to develop productive relationships with pediatric researchers
Desire to work and problem solve in a team environment, where staff frequently depend on one another
Ability to provide solution-agnostic support by focusing on research requirements and desired outcomes
Patience and persistence to troubleshoot technical issues
Passion for new technologies and science
In order to qualify you must have:
Master's degree or higher in bioinformatics, genomics, or a closely related field, and at least four years' experience in a research environment; or Ph.D. in science, genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science or related, with 2+ years of work experience post-Ph.D.; or similar.
Strong background and experience with human genomic data
Strong publication record
Knowledge and experience in the use of open source bioinformatics software and pipelines to support diverse bioinformatics analyses
Proficiency with Python and R required; experience with deep learning, statistics, SQL, scientific workflow tools and/or cloud computing would be a bonus.
