Come join a dynamic child life team of 18 in the beautiful Rochester Finger Lakes Region of New York. We are looking for a full time Child Life Specialist to be part of the multidisciplinary team that supports the needs of children and families. This position is a full time position supporting the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Critical Care Center.
Provide psychosocial and emotional support to the patients and families within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Cardiac Care Center at UR Medicine’s Golisano Children’s Hospital
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to achieve patient care goals
Provide therapeutic play opportunities to assess developmental needs, and offer opportunities for expression and normalization of the environment
Prepare and support patients through invasive procedures to minimize the potential for psychological trauma
Provides developmentally appropriate preparation and education to patients and families regarding their healthcare experience
Provide bereavement support to siblings and families, including memory making and legacy building
Collaborate with the other members of the child life department to further the work of child life within the institution and in the community
Supervise volunteers and support the education of child life practicum and internship students
Unit Pediatric Intensive Care Unit & Pediatric Cardiac Care Center
Full time – Weekdays 8:30-5:00 with occasional weekends
Preferred: Master’s Degree in child life. Minimum 1 year working as a child life specialist
Required: Bachelor’s degree in child life or related field. Minimum 1 year working professionally with children.
CCLS – Certified Child Life Specialist by the Association of Child Life Professionals or eligible to sit for exam and successful certification within one year of hire.
