Manager - Safety & High Reliability - Quality Management - East Orlando

AdventHealth East Orlando, a 293-bed full service community hospital that serves as one of AdventHealth's seven satellite facilities, became part of the AdventHealth system in 1990. The Manager of Safety and High Reliability is a passionate leader of safe, reliable, patient-centered care and achieving excellence through integrated clinical, operational, and financial performance per the AdventHealth core value of Excellence. The Safe Reliable Care Manager reports directly to the designated Safe Reliable Care Director. The Manager works in collaboration with organizational administration, physicians and other clinical team members to improve patient safety. This individual serves as the facilitator for performance improvement activities which focus on improving patient safety and high reliable performance. The manager works directly with the campus and supports all PSO activities, coordinates the planning and execution of campus action plans, and works with campus department heads to improve the integrity of their department's safety and high reliability programs. This individual shall adhere to all AdventHealth policies/ procedures and rules / regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Leadership skills, including a demonstrated willingness to pursue leadership roles with increasing levels of accountability; comfort with decision-making responsibilities; coaching, teaching, and counseling skills; and the ability to influence and motivate.
Self-motivated and willing to study new fields for application in areas of responsibility. Self-starter and self-manager. Ability to define and accomplish project goals in a resourceful and timely manner.
Communication skills and interpersonal skills for interfacing with all levels of the AH team and external stakeholders of the organization. This involves the ability to persuade and negotiate in situations that are controversial/sensitive and result in authoritative decisions.
Analytical ability to apply theories, principles, and practices of several disciplines for problem resolution. Expertise in performance improvement methodologies.
Ability to develop and maintain knowledge of regulations and guidelines for areas of responsibility. Expertise in patient safety principles including high reliability, patient centered care, and error/harm prevention theory and practice.
Bachelor's degree in safety, quality, and/or healthcare related field.
Three years of experience in a healthcare, safety, or quality environment, including experience in management or successfully facilitating significant quality and/or safety initiatives.
Master's degree in safety, quality, and/or healthcare related field. (Preferred)
Active Florida license as one of the following: Registered Nurse, ARNP, Respiratory therapist, Occupational therapist, Physical therapist, Speech Pathologist, Radiology technician, Ultrasound technician, Physician assistant, Paramedic, Pharmacist
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Certification in Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) (Preferred)

Collaborates with Risk Management, Compliance and Regulatory areas and Performance Improvement staff to identify and mitigate areas of high risk and develop integrated prevention practices to improve patient, employee, physician, and visitor safety by driving down preventable harm.
Develops, implements, and ensures alignment with campus and system key performance indicators and measures, to monitor quality and safety improvements, including other regulatory metrics as identified.
Responsible for and participates in Executive Patient Safety Walk Rounds. Analyzes and reports results at campus and system PI councils, including the campus Patient Safety and Quality Committee.
Recommends and facilitates performance improvement (PI) activities related to safety.
In cases where patient safety potentially is comprised, or risk is unknown, the Safe Reliable Care Manager has the authority to issue a "stop work" (hold the line) to cease use of equipment, specific clinical practices, or limit the activities of specific healthcare workers, until resolution of concerns is adequately reached.
Oversees the conduct of proactive risk & hazard assessments to prevent system failures including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and self-assessments through use of trigger, observation and risk assessment tools. Participates in any Sentinel Event identified at their campus.
Develops initiatives to instill strong prevention culture for patient safety improvements and error reduction, including: Behavior-based expectations, Medical error safety practices, Observation and coaching
Creates a learning system that identifies defects and fixes them.
Manages the recruitment, retention, training, and competence of staff and analysts. Ensures the accuracy, timeliness, reliability, frequency, level-of-detail of staff work product.
