The Research Coordinator provides leadership for research assistants and student workers for several projects in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh, Infectious Diseases, Clinical Research Unit (CRU). Current studies include a surveillance project funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, several multi-centered NIH funded studies, and several industry-sponsored studies.
The Research Coordinator will join a senior Clinical Research Nurse who oversees the CRU. The Coordinator's primary function is to oversee the day-to-day operations of subject recruitment, data collection, data entry, and proper sample collection practices. In addition, the incumbent also may enroll subjects for studies. This position requires experience recruiting subjects who are admitted in the hospital setting and working with all disciplines of clinical care and research laboratory staff. It also requires a working knowledge of Good Clinical Practices to execute research studies according to Pitt standards. High-level communication skills are required. Likewise, strong organization skills are paramount to ensure consolidation and analysis of data. The Research Coordinator must be able to think independently and make keen decisions with day to day operations with research activities and staff during the PI's absence.
Bachelor's degree required. A minimum of one year of experience in public health and research field is required. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. Position will require flexibility with shift/hours and when needed, will be required to work on the evenings and weekends. Travel may be required to community sites in the western PA region and to attend national meetings. This position is located at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville.
