Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
As an Advanced Practice Provider (NP, PA) for Interventional Cardiology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, this position works with pediatric interventional cardiologists to assist in the evaluation and treatment of both inpatient and outpatients referred to interventional cardiology/cardiac catheterization lab. The Advanced Practice Provider works closely with pediatric cardiologists, but an independent and proactive mentality is expected.
Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university.
Master’s degree in nursing or higher.
Successful completion of an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant program.
Current certification by approved certification organization.
Current Georgia License – APRN or PA.
Current BCLS certification.
Current PALS certification.
Current CITI certification or complete within 6 months of hire.
Acute Care certification preferred.
Experience in pediatric cardiology, neonatal intensive care unit or pediatric intensive care unit preferred.
Strong critical thinking skills required.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and follow-through discipline.
Strong oral and written communication skills required.
Must possess advanced nursing/medical knowledge as well as critical thinking, judgment and assessment skills.
Position requires the ability to identify and report unusual or problematic circumstances to physician.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform history and physical exam on outpatients presenting to catheterization lab.
Obtain procedural consent for inpatient and outpatient settings.
Place medically appropriate orders for interventional catheterization patients by admission through discharge or transfer to inpatient units.
Attend and present patients in morning catheterization rounds.
Perform up to date assessments, document in the medical record, and communicate findings and recommendations to the supervising pediatric interventional cardiologist.
Scrub/1st Assist in interventional and diagnostic catherization procedures.
Manage patients post procedure through discharge or sign-out to other inpatient units.
Triage incoming calls and communicate appropriately with the interventional cardiologist.
Develop and communicate interventional cardiology recommendations to the primary services including additional testing and treatment plan.
Assist in the coordination of care between interventional cardiology and other involved services at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, including referring service.
Coordinate daily catheterization schedule, including case distribution, room assignments and order.
Participate in daily bed huddle, as needed, to have appropriate inpatient beds allocated for post catheterization patients.
Follow up on lab results and other test results.
Provide education and information to patients and their families.
Provide information to referring providers regarding diagnosis, procedure and management.
Organize and participate in interventional clinic.
Be available as a clinical resource to staff.
Participate in clinical research studies.
Participate in ongoing quality improvement measures and projects.
Orient and educate new physicians/fellows to interventional catheterization lab.
Perform other clinical and administrative duties needed for the operations of the interventional catheterization lab.
The practitioner is invited to participate in any of the educational offerings at CHOA and within the Children’s Heart Center (such as the Friday morning core conference for cardiology fellows), time allowing. Continuing education and participation in academic pursuits are encouraged.
