The University of Washington (UW) Department of Radiation Oncology is recruiting a physician faculty member with a focus in adult sarcoma and pediatric oncology. This program will support program development and growth. This position supports the teaching, research, and service missions of the university.
The selected candidate will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington on the clinician-teacher pathway as an Assistant Professor (0113) without tenure due to funding with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020. This is a full-time position with a twelve month appointment with salary paid over twelve months for eleven months of service.
The UW/FHCRC/SCCA adult sarcoma program treats ~ 400 new patients per year with a well-established referral base spanning the multi-state WWAMI region. The candidate for this role will have the opportunity to collaborate with a large multidisciplinary team including 4 medical oncologists, 2 orthopedic oncologists, and 2 surgical oncologists on the adult sarcoma service. Areas of focus for the adult sarcoma research program include immunotherapy, palliative care, radiosensitizers, and radiomics.
The pediatric oncology program is centered at Seattle Children's Hospital, a top 10 children's hospital. Partners in caring for patients include world-renown surgeons, medical oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and others—including three Children's Oncology Group section leaders. Patients are treated with photons, protons, electrons and neutrons; a majority of pediatric patients treated at the proton center are referred from outside the Seattle Children's system although all radiation therapy patients receive concurrent care there. The new faculty member will also treat patients with total body irradiation in preparation for stem cell transplant. The practice has experienced steady growth and further expansion is anticipated. The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,800 patients yearly from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. Additional patients from throughout the United States and the world are regularly treated in the Department. The University of Washington has the only Radiation Oncology department in North America that has clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy. Department platforms include MIM, MOSAIQ EMR, Raystation TPS, Elekta linacs, Mobetron eIORT, and HDR brachytherapy. Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics and tumor boards. We enjoy strong collaborations with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and several imaging research laboratories. The Department has 24 physicians, 8 advanced practice providers, 22 physicists and 2 research faculty, who engage in active multi-disciplinary clinical and basic research. The successful applicant must have an MD or a DO, or foreign equivalent, and be board certified or eligible in Radiation Oncology with the American Board of Radiology (ABR); candidates who are ABR board eligible must become board certified within two years of faculty appointment. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
