Adventhealth Apopka seeks to hire a Lead Respiratory Therapist who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.
AdventHealth Apopka is a seven-story, 120-bed hospital offering an extensive range of services including expanded surgical services, advanced surgical suites and a catheterization lab. The hospital also features a 30,000-square-foot emergency department with pediatric-friendly beds, imaging services, a full-service cafeteria, chapel, gift shop and on-site fire station. The hospital opened in December 2017, replacing the 50-bed hospital that AdventHealth had operated in downtown Apopka for more than four decades.

The Respiratory Care Clinical Specialist is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment, care, and needs of an assigned group of patients. Functions as an Advanced Respiratory Therapist; ability to accept leadership responsibility in the absence of a Supervisor, as directed. Adheres to Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Associate degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program, OR
If hired prior to November 20, 2015, must be a graduate of a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary program
Two years' post-graduate critical care clinical experience
Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science Program -Preferred
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Valid State of Florida license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Only for CC: 0520, 1520, 3604, 3728, 4270, 5040, 7630, 7637, 9390
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - Only for CC: 1520, 4270, 7633, 7637
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Only for CC: 1520, 3604, 3728, 4270, 7633, 7637

Must satisfactorily complete an orientation, airway management competencies, critical care and advanced critical care-training program, a proficiency exam, and be proficient at all applicable procedures defined below.
Functions as a collaborative member and respiratory clinical resource for the interdisciplinary team.
Acts as a patient safety advocate, ensures quality care through continuing knowledge of evidence-based practices.
Practices and enforces the principles of standard precautions and enforces safety regulations; according, to hospital policies on a continual basis. Ensures that documentation and charges for procedures are accurately completed
Proactively initiates process improvement ideas.
Assists with clinical instruction, precepting, and skills check offs of other therapists. Completes performance monitors and/or competency assessment as needed.
Serves as a clinical resource /expert at initiating and administering complex therapeutic interventions such as HFOV, HFJV and Nitric Oxide therapy.
Responds to Code Blue emergencies, immediately providing CPR; according, to the American Heart Association guidelines.
Leads and manages airway emergencies including proper use of manual resuscitators, suctioning, extubation, assists with bronchoscopy, assists with tracheostomy tube insertion, performs trach tube change, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, LMA insertion, endotracheal intubation, and procedural respiratory support.
Properly utilizes patient assessment skills, protocols, chart review, and conferring with multidisciplinary team to determine efficacy of therapy in a cost and time efficient manner making appropriate recommendations and changes per protocol. Performs respiratory therapies and oxygen delivery therapies and makes recommendations to the most efficient delivery method per protocol.
Initiates, maintains, transports and monitors mechanical ventilators to include conventional and advanced modes of ventilation per policy and procedure.
Reviews chest radiology reports as necessary and per policy and procedure. Initiates, maintains, transports and monitors Heliox and Nitric Oxide.
Properly performs hemodynamic procedures to include: arterial cannulation, assembly, calibration; calibration; performs cardiac output and hemodynamic / cardiopulmonary profiles.
Obtains, performs, and reports findings of blood gas and co-oximetry analysis. Performs quality control as needed.
Setup and perform oximetry, apnea, TC and ETCO2 monitoring as ordered by physician.
May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of Florida Hospital non-waived Point of Care training.
Supports hospital and department mission, goals, and department metrics. Performs other duties such as filling in for the absence of a lead therapist or supervisor as requested by department leadership.
Ensures transport supplies and equipment are restocked and functional.
