Instructor / Assistant Professor - Acute & Tertiary Care, Memphis - 19000001RP
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Nursing, Department of Acute & Tertiary Care, is accepting applications for full-time, non-tenure track, Instructor/Assistant Professor position.
Responsibilities for this role include 95% clinical practice assignment at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, which includes: Planning and directing the delivery of healthcare to pediatric trauma patient population in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The incumbent will work with the Trauma team to provide optimal care for trauma patients at our Level I Trauma Center and participate in research and quality improvement projects and community outreach. In addition, 5% of educational responsibilities in the College of Nursing will be determined in collaboration with the Department Chair.
Variable based on the needs of the division.
Will include days, and the possibility of evening, night, and weekend coverage.
Cross-training to the general surgery service will be expected.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Assesses, diagnoses, and treats pediatric trauma patients according to approved protocols and acceptable standards.
Responds to trauma notifications in the Emergency Department (Trauma stats, alerts, and activations) in a timeframe as required by the American College of Surgery (ACS).
Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the Medical Director/collaborating Physician. Participates in the design and revision of protocols. This will include performing procedures as per the scope of practice such as burn wound care, removal of chest tubes and drains, suture removal, etc.
Collaborates with Pediatric Surgeon, members of the trauma team, and ancillary personnel as appropriate to promote quality care for patients. Initiates consults and referrals as appropriate.
Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care.
Develops strong partnerships with patients, family members, fellow physicians/nurses and support staff. Focuses on high patient and family satisfaction and retention.
Inpatient and outpatient position involves managing the care of children with new and ongoing trauma conditions, developing education plans for families, and ordering appropriate consultation and referrals when indicated.
Participate in daily rounds with the surgery service and multi-disciplinary trauma rounds.
Complete daily progress notes on all admitted trauma patients.
5% of educational responsibilities in the College of Nursing will be determined in collaboration with the Department Chair.
Earned Master's degree or higher in a nursing specialty from an accredited university required. Doctor of Nursing Practice degree preferred.
Current DEA certification, and must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
Unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse (RN) and advanced practice nurse (APN) in Tennessee or eligibility to obtain licensure in Tennessee required.
