The Department of Pharmacy Services at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia offers a one-year post-graduate year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program. The residency is designed to effectively enable the new practitioner to develop a solid foundation in problem solving and decision-making skills in multiple aspects of pharmaceutical care, allowing them to proceed on to practice pharmacy with substantial clinical acumen, and the ability to continue on to specialty training if desired.
Required and elective learning experiences
The residency program consists of approximately nine months of required experiences and three months of elective experiences.
Required experiences include:
Acute care / general medicine
Longitudinal experiences available include (but are not limited to):
Blood and marrow transplantation clinic
Bone health clinic
Cystic Fibrosis clinic
Investigational drug service
Elective experiences include (but are not limited to):
Bone marrow transplantation
Cystic fibrosis / pulmonary medicine
Solid organ transplantation
Drug use evaluation
Medication safety incidents / Adverse drug reactions
Staff development / CE programs
The resident provides a service commitment to the hospital in the form of staffing one weekend every three weeks.
The resident will attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in December and the Eastern States Residency Conference in the spring of their residency year. The resident is also encouraged to attend local pharmacy meetings as well.
Stipend and benefits
$50,500 per year, $1,000 meeting stipend
Paid Personal Leave (25 days, includes vacation and sick days)
Seven holidays (resident will work one of these holidays)
Hospital Benefits Program — medical, dental, vision, prescription, disability, life insurance, medical and dependent care reimbursement accounts, 403b plans
PharmD degree required, hospital experience preferred, eligible for Pennsylvania licensure; application through PhORCAS with a current photograph and a letter of recommendation from a clinical preceptor, faculty member, and employer are requested.
