Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Department of Pediatrics for the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
In accordance with professional nursing standards, the Staff Nurse skillfully administers total patient care based on the individualized needs of assigned patients and families.
Among the key duties of this position include the following:
Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
Administers prescribed medications and treatment and examination of patient.
Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's conditions and reactions to drugs, treatment and significant incidents.
Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy, including patient and family instruction.
Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies for surgery.
Demonstrating and educating families in the use of all medications and devices for the inhalation treatment of asthma and cystic fibrosis. This is to include nebulizers to deliver bronchodilators, mucolytics, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs as well as MDI and aero chamber medications for the treatment of asthma and cystic fibrosis.
Performs pre and post bronchodilator pulmonary function testing in children according to ATS standards for spirometry.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to work well with computers.
Excellent oral and written business English proficiency communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
Three to five (3-5) years of experience in Pediatric in-patient experience.
Experience within last 3 years in triaging pediatric patients and management and care of chronic disease.
Pulmonary and Asthma experience.
BSN and specialized certification highly desired.
Salary range for applicants with RN, BSN, and Specialized Certification: Minimum: $74,235.20 Mid: $91,478.40 Maximum: $105,393.60
Salary: Commensurate on experience.
