Required Qualifications: As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. There are no minimum education or experience qualifications for appointment to this title. Must comply with all DLAR policies and procedures. Must have the ability to perform the physical tasks of the position such as bending, moving, stretching and standing for long periods of time as well as moving objects up to 50 lbs, unassisted. Must have the ability understand and carry out both written and oral instruction.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience performing animal husbandry duties in a commercial or research setting.
Brief Description of Duties: Take care of Lab animals in order to help research work. Duties to include the following:
Cleaning, changing cages, bottles, scrubbing pens, feed/water animals, observe/report sick/dead/injured animals; sweep, mop, house and squeegee rooms;
Sanitize and buff rooms;
Ensure cage cards are filled out properly;
Take daily census of animal population and fill out prescribed forms;
Operate automatic cage washers;
Remove garbage from area;
Pair groups of animals for mating under supervision .
Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.
Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such are required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are cancelled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
