Our staff not only enjoys outstanding benefits and professional growth opportunities, but also an environment noted for diversity, community involvement, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits, and natural beauty.The UWMC Pediatric Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time MEDICAL ASSISTANT.RESPONSIBILITIES:CLINIC FLOWMonitors and manages the flow of patients in the clinic throughout the dayDemonstrates the ability to be organized and effectively prioritizes work tasks for the needs of the clinicAssists health care professionals in the examination and treatment of pediatric patients by performing duties such as preparation of patients and environment for treatmentPrepares patients for and provide skilled assistance to providers performing patient care procedures in the clinicPerforms direct patient care procedures according to their level of education, certification and clinic protocolMaintains sterile technique during treatments and special procedures as indicatedMonitor patient post procedure in line with scope of practice and clinic guidelinesPresent portions of the pre- and post-procedure patient education sessionsPerform basic diagnostics tests to their level of education, certification and clinic protocolAdministers vaccinationsPATIENT CARE - SAFETYMaintains infection control standards including hand hygiene and appropriate use of personal protective attireResponds appropriately to patients in physical distress or emergency situationsActs as a chaperones as required by ProviderManages storage of equipment ensuring safe access and egress for patients in the hallwaysActs as an advocate for the children attending the clinicReports any suspicion of child abuseCOORDINATION OF CAREAssists providers and clinic RNs in the maintenance of clinic processes to ensure timely follow-up on reported test resultsAssists with coordination of care including clarifying patient follow-up and scheduling patient's appointments in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary teamDOCUMENTATIONAccurately and thoroughly documents provision of patient care in a timely mannerMaintains, completes and submits required clinic reports and audits in a timely mannerGENERAL CLINIC DUTIESPerforms duties of PSS, office assistants, or other support staff as required by clinic needsAnswers telephone calls in a professional manner and directs calls appropriatelySchedules follow up appointmentsPrepares medical record for clinic visit and document information to complete patient check-in processVerifies presence of medical records and x-rays prior to scheduled appointments. Request existing records and x-rays as necessaryTransport patients and lab specimensResponds to patient issues and refers issues as appropriateMaintain clinic specific databasesOrders supplies BILLING PRACTICESCompletes billing documents verifying the correctness of charges and that diagnoses have been obtainedResponds to patient billing questions referring as necessary to appropriate sourceDemonstrates understanding of billing practicesREQUIREMENTS:Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board;OREquivalent education/experience.Legal Requirement:Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period.
