Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Supervising Advanced Practice Nurse for the School of Nursing’s Child Health Program (CHP). The Supervising Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) provides administrative experience and clinical expertise in pediatric nursing, especially as it relates to child welfare. As part of the senior management team, this key position provides administrative support and assistance to the CHP Director. as needed, including active and direct involvement in program development, implementation, evaluation, and short/long term strategic planning, in collaboration with Department of Children & Families (DCF)/Child Protection & Permanency (CP&P) leadership. The Supervising APN also provides administrative oversight of CHP staff and leadership, as well as direction of program operations and initiatives, as assigned by the CHP Director and offers clinical guidance and expertise to CHP staff and leadership in matters of clinical practice and management.
The Supervising APN provides leadership and nursing expertise at a program and systems level to ensure a smooth interface between CHP and DCF systems and personnel, as well as health care planning that is consistent with the best interests of each child and with program goals, and that is within the scope of Rutgers and DCF policies, within the scope of nursing practice as defined by the New Jersey Board of Nursing, and consistent with American Academy of Pediatrics, Centers for Disease Control, and EPSDT guidelines. In all activities, the AD maintains the standards of nursing practice for Rutgers and supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Child Health Program.
Represents CHP and/or the CHP Director at various meetings and serves as a program liaison to the New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF)/Office of Child and Family Health Services (OCFHS)/Child Protection and Permanency (CP&P), as well as community and other partners.
Actively participates with the CHP Director in program development, implementation, evaluation, and strategic planning.
Provides personnel and administrative oversight and direction for program operations, as assigned by the CHP Director and in collaboration with the CHP Business Manager.
Leads and facilitates the development, implementation, and coordination of specific program initiatives to address specific program goals and issues, as assigned by the CHP Director.
Orients, supervises/directs, mentors, and evaluates the Program Nurses and Regional Nurse Administrators, as assigned by the CHP Director.
Assists the CHP Director in providing direction, guidance and coordination for the CHP Leadership Group (Regional Nurse Administrators and Program Nurses).
Provides clinical expertise and guidance to the CHP staff and leadership, especially for difficult and/or high profile cases through mentoring, case conferences, formal/informal education, and resource identification.
Works collaboratively with the CHP Director to provide ongoing professional and clinical development for the CHP staff and leadership.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the State of New Jersey and certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
A Master's Degree (unless grandfathered by the State of New Jersey) in Nursing, in an appropriate specialty area, such as pediatric, maternal/child, or family nursing.
A minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience in pediatric nursing including at least two (2) years as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
At least one (1) year of supervisory/managerial experience.
Current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This position requires computer literacy/computer skills.
Doctorally (Doctor of Nursing Practice – DNP) prepared.
One (1) year experience in the child welfare system.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position requires standing, bending, and walking (up and down) stairs and the ability to lift 50 pounds (infants/children, records) to waist level.
Vehicle and valid New Jersey license.
