Under general direction, provides testing to appropriate patients receiving care in the Emergency Department or other assigned area in an attempt to identify patients with specific diagnoses and connect those patients to care. May provide referrals or life-style education to patients as specified in diagnosis program procedures. Conducts testing in accordance to DMC policies and procedures. Maximizes the number of individuals receiving preliminary positive results and corresponding confirmatory tests. May elicit patient consent to testing and obtain risk history which may be sensitive in nature. Collects blood specimens via finger stick following safety environmental and infection control standards. Conducts test result disclosure and post-disclosure counseling as needed offering referrals for additional services as needed and specified in program. Documents collected patient information and maintains testing, temperature and quality control logs as directed. Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA laws. Monitors supply inventory and communicates inventory needs to supervisor. Demonstrates ability to work independently and cooperatively with various disciplines. Provides excellent customer service. Collaborates and cooperates with care team members to ensure consistency and quality of care, and promotes productive employee relations among staff members. Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and objectives of continuous improvement, team work and the mission, vision and values of the DMC. Follows all departmental policies, procedures and objectives and continuous improvement initiatives. Performs other tasks as assigned.
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Specific governmental agency certification for assigned area of testing/counseling preferred.
