The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is an organization of 67,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Our headquarter office is located in Itasca, IL and will be the onsite location for this opportunity.
The Gartner Pediatric History Center offers unpaid internships in two categories:
Working to provide greater visibility of the Gartner Pediatric History Center and to deliver wider access to the AAP Archives and Special Collections, the Archives Intern will gain hands on experience with both analog and digital records. The interns will have the opportunity to either explore a broad range of archival skills or focus on a personal area of interest. Opportunities include traditional processing, original Dublin Core cataloging, writing and publishing finding aids, research, digitization and digital curation.
Working to manage and promote the Pediatric Artifact Collection of the Gartner Pediatric History Center, the Artifact Intern will gain hands on experience with object handling, identification, inventory, marking, research and reviewing. Intern will also be encouraged to create digital exhibits and original stories utilizing the entire collection of over 1,500 artifacts related to the history and evolution of infant nutrition, child care, and pediatric medicine. ?
Basic understanding of archival arrangement or collection management, proper preservation and handling methods, ability to work independently.
Additional skills desired but not required: Digital photography, exhibition design, and proficiency in French language.
